South View Middle School
Young Men Aware and Young Women Aware are leadership development programs for middle school and high school students.
Young Women Aware has grown tremendously since 1997. The Young Women Aware Program began in October 1997 at Danville High School because of increased concerns for young women attending DHS and the issues that the community faced with the increased teen births and increased high school drop out rates.
In the fall of 2001, Young Women Aware spread from DHS to North Ridge and South View Middle Schools. Soon after, Young Men Aware began at Danville High School, North Ridge and South View Middle Schools.
Since 1997, the Young Women Aware program has awarded 22 graduates, college scholarships.
The goals of the programs are:
High School Graduation
College Attainment
Pregnancy Prevention with a focus on Abstinence
The programs are a collaboration with Provena United Samaritans Medical Center Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Vermilion County, and Danville District #118 Schools.
Transportation is provided by District 118 from the middle schools.
The program is available to all students at the schools and there is no cost to participate.
School Year Meetings are as follows: Danville High School Mondays 3:00 PM North Ridge Middle School Wednesdays 3:30 PM South View Middle School Thursdays 3:45 PM
